A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME...
Finding Connection
I believe that one of the biggest issues most of us have is that we can't get out of our heads. Some of us move through our day, week, month and never think about how our body is moving; we might never connect our mind and body. Others of us don't want to think about our body because if we do we will only feel pain. I can help.
I also believe I was born to teach. I've always been active. In my younger years I participated in all kinds of sports and activities - from dance, to volleyball, to bowling and even college swim. I knew what I needed to do, I understood the mechanics of every sport, but I was never a great athlete or dancer. I could always "see" how to correct form to make a movement better.
I found yoga as a newlywed as I was earning my masters degree and waiting tables. Yoga was my refuge (I know that sounds corny to say, but it's true). Yoga allowed me to get out of my head (table 63 needs water, I have that paper due on Monday, I need to grade those papers, etc) and focus on ME. I was able to move and stretch in ways that made me feel better. I was able to relieve lower back pain that had plagued me for years.
About 12 years later I tried the Pilates reformer for the first time. My teacher was also a yoga instructor and encouraged me to get training in Mat Pilates. I loved the movement and the connection that I found - different from yoga but familiar.
My husband and I moved five times since I took my first yoga class, so teaching and taking classes has always helped me connect to people and my community. I will forever be grateful for what Yoga and Pilates have given to me and I am honored to be able to share these practices with so many others.
